Abstract: The first wave of data from the seven year longitudinal Growing up in Australia study shows that most parents believe they are doing a good job balancing work and family. This article presents some initial findings and discusses attitudes to work and parenting, challenges for working parents, children's development and well being, early childhood education, gender differences amongst young children, childhood obesity, and literacy.
