The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, which is collecting comprehensive data on the development of Australian children, commenced in 2003. This article explains the study design and discusses what the study will tell us about child care and education, how the information gathered will benefit the child care and early childhood sector, how the information will be gathered, and participation in the study by carers and teachers.
